During those days fighters used to wear horsehide stripes in place of gloves, it was the practice to grind pieces of glass into help; however, the practice was only followed when the both contestants were agreed. Though, the practice was immensely hazardous from the health point of view of fighters. In order to avert any miss-happening regular boxing gloves were introduced to the combat sport.
