This week, Icon bjj martial arts Norwich where invited to share our martial art life skillz programme with children at Colby Primary school.
The main focus was working on Self Control and Respect.
While many people speak how certain activities can help develop these areas, often there is no structure or exact way to put across how a child can develop this.
Using our unique lifeskillz approach, we invited the children to try out some Gracie Jiu Jitsu techniques on the coaches. Of course everyone wanted to go first.
They were jumping up and down, shouting with excitement, some even start pretend punching and kicking. In general they were super excited and found it hard to control that emotion = Self Control.
So, I explained that jumping up and down, shouting etc, is not the action to take, if you want to try out our techniques. Explaining, I was only looking for those who are controlled enough to use the techniques.
Instantly, the children lined up and stood still, proving to us just how much self control they had.
After trying out some Jiu Jitsu martial arts, we explained why we shack hands and how this is showing respect to our partners and how much we value them for helping us try the techniques. All the while, mentioning how these same values should be shown toward our parents and family.
At the end of the martial art session in Colby near Norwich, the children had learned a little more on how to show respect and have self control using the tool of martial arts BJJ from Icon Norwich.
